Southeastern drywood termites (Incisitermes snyderi) are found in both natural and man-made enviroments. They are responsible for most of the drywood damage in the sunshine state. They are easily identified by their six sided fecal pellets or their three veined wings.

There are two treatments available for this termite pest. Tent fumigation is the only proven method, though you will also be offered a spot treatment that may sometimes work.  The drywood termite is seldom seen and that is why tent fumigation is so effective. It easily penetrates wood products like walls, floor joists, trusses, plywood, window sills and paneling, all the place where drywood termites reside.

Tent fumigation with Zythor or Vikane gas (sulfuryl fluoride)  requires the occupants to move out of the home for two nights. The structure is then covered with large tarps and sealed to the ground. The gas is then released into the structure.  The gas is carefully calculated to do the job.

The spot treatment in most cases requires drilling into window sills, door frames and wall voids. This treatment can be successful as long as the termites gallery is located and you don't mind the unsitley cosmetic damage left from the drill holes. Another down side to this treatment is it can become very time consuming and require multiple visits. Localized treatments should never be considerd in the presents of swarming termites because one colony can become many in multiple areas in the home.

Brantley Termite and Pest Control has been performing tent fumigation for more than 16 years in the Tampa Bay area.
